The broad, slender format of the small study on painting board offers a panoramic view of the landscape. Several straight and unfenced fields extend outwards to the distant horizon, where we see houses enclosed by trees. The entire mood is captured in diffuse lighting. Jenssen left behind relatively few landscape paintings, despite earning a reputation as a chronicler of rural life in North Frisia between the 1850s and 1880s.
