In Emil Nolde’s numerous paintings and watercolours, he captures the infinitely varied play of the elements in glowing, clear, delicate and repeatedly changing atmospheres of light and colour. This theme also occupied him in his prints, which Nolde considered highly important and in which he naturally worked primarily in pure black and white. At the same time, his seascapes – regardless of the technique used to create them – repeatedly feature little steamers gliding along the horizon line like...
