Painted in the early 1920s, the work entitled “Tidal Flats near Wyck” shows the wide view from Wyk beach across the mudflats, which are only partially covered by water. To depict the seabed, the artist selected a colour scheme of finely nuanced blues, greys and browns, which he spread into narrow bands, widening occasionally into broader pools of water, in the lower part of the painting.
