Michael Ancher became one of the first painters in the remote Danish town of Skagen on the northern tip of Jutland when he arrived there in 1874. He soon settled there and married Anna Brøndum from Skagen, who today – as Anna Ancher – is counted as one of the most significant painters of Danish Modernism.
