The composition of this painting includes many of the rich motifs that Hans Peter Feddersen noted down in his sketchbook (private collection) during what was likely his first study trip to Fanø in June 1892. With its approximately 29 single or double-page drawings in 13 x 21 cm format, the book testifies to the artist’s outstanding powers of observation and ability to make quick sketches of the things he saw.
