The Fisherman’s Wife, 1882

The Norwegian painter Wilhelm Peters spends a few weeks in Skagen in the early 1880s with his compatriots Christian Krohg (1852–1925) and Frits Thaulow (1847–1906). He is interested in portraying the lives of fishermen along the coast during his stay. This includes dramatic scenes during storms and distress at sea as well as the destructiveness of nature and the harsh working lives in the region.
